Be Bold and Commit to what you want.
I was watching a program today about two men who were trying to fly over Mount Everest using a para-motor. Basically, it’s a parachute with a motor strapped to your back which provides thrust and allows you to fly!
In one scene, one of the men, Bear Grylis was trying to take off for the first time. His parachute was lifted off the ground, he started his motor, began to run and promptly fell down backwards on his ass!
The Camera focussed on him as he got up and he said:
I
was just too timid! It’s alright though, I know what I did, I’ll be bolder next time.
That line, really stopped me and made me think how that idea applies to everything that we do in life, everything that we try to accomplish.
When you decide to do something in life, you can’t go at it half arsed, you can’t doubt that you will achieve it or more importantly, you can’t doubt weather you really want to achieve it.
In the programme, Bear fell over and failed to take off because he wasn’t fully committed. He doubted weather he actually wanted to start flying in what was a pretty flimsy machine and when the crunch time came, the doubts stopped him from doing what was necessary to take off.
When you decide that you want to do something, spend some time thinking about it, about exactly what it is, about why you want to do it and about and doubts that you may have. Don’t hide away your doubts because they will resurface at the key moment and stop you from achieving what you want.
Instead, face them. If after you have faced them, you still want to do it, you will have taken away their power. If not, then you never really wanted to do it anyway!
